Post-processing RAW images, my first attempts.

This might be one of those posts I’ll see in a years time and be dreadfully embarrassed about.

I’ve been taking RAW and jpg images on my new DSLR camera ever since I got it in December, but only just today gone into the whole “post-processing” route. This is where you take the image your camera saw, and edit the saturation, lightness and a few other settings to improve the photo.

I was instantly in love with this, the first time I tried this was a few weeks ago and I was scared so never explored it fully, but today I did and I loved the results, which I’ve put in below.

Homemade Soda Bread

How to make soda bread (and enhance it with grilled bacon!).

I just had this for lunch, it was unbelievable! Fresh bread from the oven, still steaming and some slices of grilled bacon on top served with a mug of tea. Amazing.

Ingredients:

300 grammes of spelt flour
250ml cultured buttermilk
10 grammes baking powder
1/3 teaspoon of salt

Preparation method:

Preheat the oven to 180 Degrees Celsius and pop in a baking tray or oven proof dish
In a mixing bowl or large, clean pan, add the flour, salt and baking powder
Pour in the buttermilk and mix with a spoon or one of your clean hands (leave the other hand clean for twitter, phone calls and putting this in the oven)
Make sure all the ingredients are mixed, you should now have a sticky dough. Don’t over-knead, just mix and combine to a dough
Take the tray or dish out of the oven, liberally sprinkle a light coating of flour on the base, and place the dough in a long, but fat sausage shape
Make some “cuts” along the length – but don’t actually slice the dough! Then sprinkle with flour
Place in the oven for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown
To test the bread is cooked, put a knife into the bread, it should come out more or less clean, and not covered in dough! (that’s the plan anyway)

Now the oven is free, turn on the grill setting, put the kettle on and get some bacon. If you’re lucky, you’ve got a pepper grinder and some Soy Sauce to season the bacon with. Put it in the oven on some foil at the highest setting and cook to your liking.

Then slice the bread, add the bacon, sip the tea and eat the food. Repeat.

Despite the fact that it was cold, foggy, slushy underfoot and generally miserable I think I still managed to capture some lovely colour on our walk just now. The first photo is black and white, but it sums up the mood of the walk nicely.

Another early morning start, and a very cold one just north of Stratford On Avon. Parked the car and found a stretch of canal, lucky!

We took “the one with the tail” to the local park for his favourite thing this morning; playing with his frisbee! I brought along my new camera and took some photos, for the first time not on the “auto” setting, so the aperture and shutter speed etc were all set by me.
