Designing for yourself

So, I finally have a logo for my company that I am really happy with, and it has so much potential as there seems to be no limit to what could be done with it, but when it comes down to it, I can simply not design a Web site around the logo.

I think I know what I want the new Web site to be like - in terms of content and structure that is, but in terms of design I am at a complete loss.

Problem is, I want it to be absolutely perfect, and to knock the socks off the visitor, and to stand out from my competitors locally and have a fair stab at standing up for itself regionally, if not nationally. but I just can not stick to a design. So far, I have done probably five different mock-ups, all very good, but no way near good enough for what I have in mind. It’s a bloody nightmare!

There are two things I am setting out to do with this re-design, one being identity and the other is to increase my conversion ratio. I get lots of hits, but not many people decide to ask me for a quote. This needs to dramatically improve for me to be able to continue.

The logo I have is very simple, an S and a C, joined together in a nice font, it is one of the very first times I have had an idea in my head, and it’s converted to the screen as I intended and I am so happy with that.

New Logo

Can anyone give me any advice on how I should approach the Web site design? What do you do when you design your own Web site?

Having just completed the design of the new skysoclear site (now currently building!), it’s one of the hardest things to do.

I’ve treated our redesign like I would approach any client site. It starts getting easier once you realise you know what you like and how you like to project yourself. Ask a few people what they would want to see (maybe past clients!) and have a crack at it. It took me 4 goes at least!

Just four attempts? I’m on my 14th - no joke.

You make it sound so easy, but the problem is, I’m a nit-picking perfectionist. Not that I do things perfectly but I want my site perfect.

Yes I do agree with you, when coming to redesigning our own site, we find it the most challenging work and find it really hard to get one that really is THE PERFECT.
Good Luck for your work!!!
